This is the much photographed Dead Horse Point. Legend has it that cowboys would round up wild mustangs in the opened area surrounded by the Colorado River, then pick the best of the heard and leave the rest to die by blocking off the narrow entrance way to the mesa with no water source and the Colorado River 1500 feet below. Thus the name Dead Horse Point.
