Is AI the future of Image Processing ...?

It seems that there have been some major advances in image processing to both reconstruct dark images and remove noise from images. I am not talking about ‘deep learning’ any more as a collaboration between NVIDIA, MIT and Aalto University can go much further – without ever having seen noise-free photographs.

But current examples still use the Noise2Noise AI that was trained using 50k pictures. See this video:

All in all some quite astonishing advances in RAW data correction but, I believe that the industry standards of Adobe and Capture One for noise reduction will be around for a while.

Also did you know Google Photos will soon be able to automatically add colour to old black and white photos? Using AI of course!
