I have encountered this problem with Lightroom CC under Windows 10- or at least a very similar one. Sometimes I get a similar message, and sometimes the image just returns to LR looking like garbage with no message.
Yesterday I had the latter scenario occur. In spite of the garbage image, I clicked on the Develop module just for giggles. The image came up in Develop fully intact. I immediately went back to the Library module and the image was then fine. This made it seem like the data is there, but LR is not [always] rendering it right initially. And Develop creates its own preview if not yet cached, doesn't it?
Similarly- I had an image come back to LR minus a few adjustments (occurs frequently). In this case, I had saved the original TIF in TS without first APPLYing the adjustments. I flipped back over to TS and APPLYd the adjustments, saved again, and the image came into LR intact.
However- these experiences are all with TS 0.8.
