Gigapixel will not start

From:

After you log in you’ll be given a window to start a trial or buy the application, if you’d like to start a trial you can click the trial button to start a free 30-day trial. If you’ve already purchased the application you should go right to the next step. End excerpt.

I just downloaded and installed TopazGigapixelAI-Online-Installer.exe from Topaz into a MS Windows 10 current machine. Gixapixel will not start to get to the above start-up screen. Nothing. Run as administrator does not work. Suggestions?

Firstly make sure you meet the technical requirements outlined on the main website and then make sure that your GPU drivers are up to date from the GPU Manufacturers website.

When I attempted to use a different workflow application from a different vendor that did install, the application not only opened but, upon startup running, determined that it would refuse fully to run because certain other software components were too old – an MS Windows installer typically does not perform a during-installation verification, but at least that installed application did something – such as demanding additional funds be expended to run the application with a hardware replacement. Gigapixel gets to a white window and then nothing – no diagnostics. Moreover, unless there is a hidden startup command line switch (or special control character sequence), one cannot put the application into debugging mode to report what the exception actually is – why it hangs. It starts to start (something does popup, but does not work). I passed up on use of the application that would not work without additional hardware and software – other applications did as well but would work with what I had. At any rate, I did look at the requirements posted by Topaz and my system does seem to meet these. The current image processing AI implementation of a competitor (not equivalent to Gigapixel but equivalent to the first two Topaz AI steps to be used before Gigapixel) does run on my platform and environment, even with the latest MS Win 10 security upgrades. Is there a diagnostic I may download to verify that not only the minimal hardware and software environment is available, but functions as Gigapixel expects? I note numerous mentions on the Topaz fora that a number of current Topaz workflow applications are not functioning with recent MS Win 10 “upgrades”. I was going to back out one of these, but MS Win 10 generated a stern security downgrade warning. I must add that I did a trial install and run of the current Adobe rental products, including Photoshop Camera Raw Super Resolution – these not only installed, but successfully ran. As I am not fond of a rental situation, I discontinued the trial and am looking for a permanent licensed application that does as well or better than Super Resolution. Purportedly, Gigapixel is such an application. If Adobe current will run, one would hope that Topaz would stay “competitive” and run as well – presumably to both hold and expand market share against the relevant Adobe rental products.

I’m not sure what your point is about adobe, competition etc.

Can you read my response and tell me if your GPU drivers are up to date please?

If you don’t know what your hardware and drivers are, run dxdiag, save the output and upload it here.

I have uploaded the MS Win configuration output to Topaz service.

I am now playing with the Nvidia driver – but again, if a current competitor AI graphics product “runs”, so should Topaz, perhaps with longer running time.

Just go to the website of the GPU manufacturer and make sure you have the latest driver. The information you have provided here is not what I asked for.

The system requirements have nothing to do with competitors and, as you stated earlier you said your PC meets the technical requirements. Maybe you should check it again here:

When you buy Topaz Software you have a license you own and can use. It is not a subscription.

From Topaz technical support in response to this issue:

Thanks for that information I am happy to help here. It appears that based on your system profile, you do not have any Graphics Memory. Gigapixel AI requires at least 2GB of Graphics memory. I would recommend using a different system if possible. Also, If you are using a chrome book, or a tablet, our software is not supported by these systems.

Please let me know if that helps or if I can do anything else to further assist you.

End response. Once I addressed that Gigapixel was not “seeing” enough Video RAM (that being allocated to other entities), I made some configuration adjustments and Gigapixel works very well. As of now, unless I can something better that will integrate into workflow, I plan to license Gigapixel AI (I did try Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw Super Resolution – it did not work well – Gigapixel AI “delivered” what Adobe SuperResolution adverts promised). If there is a way to post a screen shoot here, I will supply a screenshot of a copyrighted image of mine as it is being processed in Gigapixel. Thank you for your assistance. (The one issue I still have is that rather than having to discover how to address the issue, Topaz should have a diagnostic that – even if such a check is not done during installation – should display some sort of message (e.g., a minimum of 2 Gbyte video ram required, etc.). Other applications have in the past.)
