It could turn out really cool. There are places to buy the spores that aren't very costly at all, often as plugs, to inoculate hardwood branches. The reviews I read when researching it several months ago varied quite a bit in how successful the people were. Trying to grow some is a project I just keep in the back of my mind. I'd probably be more inclined to do something about it if the grandkids lived around here.
Come to think about it, one thing to check into is what might naturally grow in the area. The Foxfire book series from back in the 70s got its name from bioluminescent fungi (I just ran across that little factoid a few days ago in a homesteader FB group). I imagine that the county extension agent might be an information source.
